the wire I most often use has the insulating plastic extruded around the copper - in intimate contact - you expect residual tension from the large shrinkage of the plastic from the extrusion temp to room temp

 

no "rattling around" is going on

 

if any signal induced relative wire motion in a signal pair was happening then we expect 2nd order distortion - I saw none at  ~ 160 dB resolution

 

I used indirect IMD difference frequency methods to measure 2nd order distortion with a resolution limited by noise ~ -160 dB with ~5 Vrms signal - I had to replace the NP0 filter caps with polystyrene to get rid of their ~-110 dB 2nd order distortion component so I know I was measuring something

 

but I didn't have to do anything with the wire - standard commercial stuff off the spool, hand twisted

Yes. Same as with the HD25-1 II cable. Copper + steel.
