Solo Guitar - Recommendations?

Anyone else a big solo guitar fan? I've been dabbling in it for years, and have just recently dove in. I guess I'll start by just listing my favorite artists within the genre.

Ewan Dobson: I was attracted by the track 'Time 2' and have been addicted ever since. I have a closet love for Folk sound, and he fills that role nicely. He also does some great more high energy stuff as well.

Billy McLaughlin: I've only heard his album 'Fingerdance', but wow...I just can't stop listening to it. I've had it for years and I don't know why I never went out seeking more. On and off I've had it going for a few years, but lately it's been in my CD player at least once a day

Anyway, I'll pretty much take anything that's great. I love when there's a little percussion in there too (whether it be a little added drum, or a good ol' smack to the guitar).

Oh, and just for fun, try this on for size.

Probably my favorite Solo Guitar live performance that I've ever heard. It flows so nicely. Also, it's this particular performance that I love, the song sounds different every time he plays it.

EDIT: And don't you get all nit picky and say there's some Electric guitar there. Sure there is, but I still think it's very much a solo guitar song.

You'll LOVE Nils Lofgren's "Acoustic Live" album then.

Sounds unbelievably good on my SRH840's.  One of my favourite albums at the moment.  Here's a taster - IMO it's also the best song on the album .....

Keith Don't Go

I did really enjoy the song. I loved the ballad-y feel to it. The evolution of the song is always my favorite part with solo guitar. I guess that's why I love that Butler track so much because it just so up and down that it really feels like a story. I'll definitely look into this album though.

John Fahey - Fare forward (soldiers choice)

The best song of the album is not on youtube though, this one is not quite as good, but still very enjoyable.

Acoustic solo wise;

Jimmy Wahlsteen;

Don Ross;

Antoine Dufour

Basically, any artist on Candy Rat Records.

Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin and Paco De Lucia all have their solo work, but you probably are quite3 aware of them.

Then electric shred/solo;

Paul Gilbert

Steve Vai

Joe Satriani

John Petrucci (Dream Theater guitarist)

Hope some of these help!

I've noticed that. Candy Rat is just a great label for this stuff.

Also...Petrucci is a god...and so is Rudess...Dream Theater in general I suppose. lol
