Amp "upgrade" from Sony to X-Canv3...will it make a difference?

Current setup:

Dell Studio Slim PC -----> uDac2 -------> Sony TA-AX500 integrated amplifier ----> Senn HD595

The sound of this combination is solid, although I feel like I've been experiencing the limitations of the 595s the more I listen, especially with rock/prog metal music.  The highs are too peaked and bass is almost non-existent...just lacks that impact.

My situation is that I have a family friend who is offering me a very nice deal on a slightly used Musical Fidelity X-Canv3.  My musical tastes follow this general preference pattern: Prog Metal/Rock, Female Vocalists, Jazz, Soundtracks.  With this all said, would the purchase of the X-Can be worth it?  Should I hold onto that money and maybe go for a different set of headphones to suit my rock tastes better instead?

If, by your judgements, you think that the X-can will make a significant difference in SQ and performance, then I will surely go for it.  If it will only make a marginal difference, then I may just hold back and not go for it.  As you're all well aware of, it's really the thought of that new piece of equipment and hearing something different that I'm so into the idea for, but I want to be sure it's worth spending that money.

Thanks all.

Just wanted to bump a bit.

Still searching for your guys' opinions of how significant of a difference I would hear between the two amps.  Would it be dramatic?  Would investing a little money to upgrade some of the internal components of the Sony integrated outdo the stock components of the X-Can?

I appreciate your insights, fellas.

I really liked the X-Can V3 specially after getting the PinkFloyd mods and a matching Little Pinkie PSU. Personally I find the sound of the X-Can V2 w/ the same mods more engaging and exciting although I realize the X-Can V3 is the more correct sounding amp. Ideally you should listen to the gear before purchasing it to save money should you not care for its sound.

Have attended a meet? If your are in South Florida send me a PM and we could arrange for you to listen to a fully modified X-Can (V1) or an X-Can V2. Good luck.

Possibly, what makes an amp good is

low THD, low noisefloor, high dynamics, high channel separation, high current & voltage capacity, high slew rate.
And perhaps most importantly low output impedance

How the Sony fare compared to the V3? No idea, the V3 isn't bad, but I have no idea of the capacities of the SOny unit.
