I'm using this setup for my computer audio, but I'm using the receiver very much like a home entertainment system, so I thought it would be more appropriate to post in the dedicated source forum.
My problem is that I'm using a 80wpc @ 8ohm receiver paired to a vintage set of 4ohm 150 watt max. highly inefficient bookshelf speakers. Highs are exceptional, but the woofer cones have a hard time producing the warm mid-range and lows I would like to hear. Fortunately, the receiver came with a 100watt active subwoofer, which masks a great deal, but I can still hear the hole in the frequency range. I'll be replacing the DAC in the near future, which should help very much in terms of sound quality, but I know this won't fix the power problem. Most new digital receivers are rated for 8ohm operation, and the older vintage receivers are either expensive or don't offer a woofer output (minor setback of course). The Sony receiver doesn't have line level outputs, so putting a power amp post receiver doesn't look like a good idea. I've been reading all night, and my head's beginning to hurt from soaking in so much information about the older receivers. I figured I'd field my problem here and see if anyone had good suggestions. I know I really need a better receiver, but I'm on a budget and don't have the funds to throw at hi-fi at the moment. I absolutely love the ADS line, and want to get the most out of the dual woofers in each box, any ideas?
Setup:
Onboard DAC > Sony K740 > ADS L710's + 100 watt powered sub.

-Paul
