Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm Solo - Discussion and Impressions Thread - Page 87

Yay! Demoed the Solo & ALO Rx Mk3-B combo at London Meet yesterday. Both were the "unfixed" versions, with bass dial 'off'. Really impressive with my Phonak 232. Tamed the highs, enhanced and brought forward the mids, and incredibly the bass of all things reached another level without overshadowing the rest of the sound. These things are relative but the poor exchange rate does make one pause before committing but this is exactly like meeting a pretty girl you cannot forget about. Woe is my wallet.

I didn't bring my Norse balance cable for my LCD 2 rev 3

That's impressive, my db still 1.69 vrms, though.

I just have a look at LCD-2 cable and found out that it can't connect to the rxmk3 balanced out without an adapter.

Do you know any adapter that could solve this ?

Please read RS 71 B thread , that you can not use adapter from mini to RSA balance , because you can have short circuit in your amp .
I bought Norse balance cable for my LCD 2 rev 3

Did you mean that cable below can caused short circuit when pairing the LCD with RXMK3? If yes, is there any reliable source that you can refer to?

Please ask ray Samuel from RSA or alo

I try to find the thread for you , later I will post here

I have the similar cable like yours :

I use from my mini headphone connector to my RS 71 B last year, and ray Samuel said I can not use this cable , because can has short circuit in my RS 71 B

The reason why ? Until now I don't know exactly .
From that on I never use again my mini to RSA balance adapter

I do not have BALANCE cable for RS 71 B, i have now 1/8 " FEMALE CONNECTOR and BALANCE 4 PIN for my RS 71 B

This Connector CAN NOT account as Full BALANCE, because the Ground stay together insite the 1/8" Female Connector.

But this the Cheapest Solution for all my Universal IEM's and CAN's to get more POWER from RS 71 B through BALANCE Headphones.

Cheers

you do realize you are possibly damaging your headphones here? with using the balanced jack in this way, there is no such thing as ground, there is no ground reference, but rather a summed inverting output channel. this means that the inverting output will not match either the left or right channel, so at a minimum you will be causing significant modulated distortion and at worst you will be feeding a constantly wavering level of DC offset.

possibly a good idea to read up on what you plan t do before doing it.

Ah now I understand you mentioned above the 6.3 to mini balanced. That is totally different to the XLR to mini balanced as XLR has ground. Regarding the 6.3 to mini balanced, I am not sure, need to read on what you sent.

Hi guys,

Has anyone tried Solo -dB/-R with SR71A, how do they sound?

I am thinking of pairing a -dB or -R with my SR71A but get a little concerned since the old Solo (iPod Classic as source) + SR71A is somewhat clinical to me. PC + ODAC sounds closer to my sweet spot.

Any impression on -R/-dB + SR71A is welcome, thanks!

Enjoy guys, I took some pics today and they turned out pretty good so I thought I'd share them on thread.

No problem, those pics were a series of pics I took for an online mobile audio site I guest write for. When the article goes up I'll throw up the link for you guys to enjoy. Let me know what you think.

Most appear to favour black combo but silver looks pretty good in your shots. Hmm

For those of you who moved from the 1.69Vrms to 2.0Vrms, aside from a volume increase (and the clean up of noise), do you feel the an improvement in mid-bass filling in and overall soundstage/imaging (giving a fuller sound)?

I have all 3x -dBs (1.2Vrms, 1.69Vrms, 2.0Vrms) side-by-side and it seems the latest seems to improve in sound quality too. I talked to David @ Cypherlabs and he mentioned that he did improve the sonics too (as opposed of 1.2Vrms -> 1.69Vrms, it was more just volume increase).
