Hi there,
I've had my Monitor Audio Silver RX1's for quite some time now and I'm feeling like its time to move on. Though the sound is nice, its not really what I'm looking for.
I would like some help figuring out which pair of bookshelves will best fit my requirements.
I'm going to put my budget at sub-$1000 for now. $600-$800 is much more the sweet spot. I have no problems buying used either.
A big thing I'm looking for in my next pair of speakers is efficiency. I want to preferably end up running these from an integrated tube amp, however the tube amp will be on a budget which will probably equate to low power.
It doesn't really matter the reasons, I just want my speakers to be versatile.
As for sound, I've always said I'm on the warmer side of the spectrum, but I've been recently finding that the things I appreciate most in my sound are characteristics that wouldn't fit in to the 'warm, laid back' description.
I think "rich" is the perfect way to describe what I'm looking for. I don't just want my sound to be sweet, I want it to be more complex.
Detail and presence are huge for me. Nothing gives me an audio-boner more than hearing my vocals sound like they're being sung just a few feet away. I want to hear every breath, if that makes sense.
What I don't want it to be is analytical. Any kind of sibilance at all gives me ear fatigue.
In a soundstage I look most for instrument separation. I suppose you could say wide instead of deep.
Bass isn't really an issue for me since I'm planning on getting a subwoofer to accompany the bookshelves.
I will be listening to these in a nearfield setup. They'll sit on my desk about a foot or so from the wall. This is the only option as my listening space is far from optimal.
Anyway, it'd be great if I could hear some recommendations as to which pair of bookshelves will fit my needs best.
Thanks!
