Greetings,  I'm new to these forums and placed an order for a Little Dot MKIII last Thursday.  Very excited to get this amp.  I've traded several emails with David Zhe Zhe and he has been great to work with thus far.  Can't wait for the package to arrive.. :-)

cheers,

Scott

Got the amp.  Awesome.  Seems a little over the top, but I want another one for the office.

what are you powering with it?

As in what's my source hardware?  If so, I'm using an old Denon DVD-2900 at home.  When I have it at work I'm either using my iPod touch or my HTC Evo smartphone.

At home I'm using headphones and I also have it sitting between my DVD-2900 and a Marantz AV7005 as a kind of tube buffer stage.  It works very well in that role too.

If you're referring to the power tubes, they're stock.

No I mean what headphones are you powering with it.

Oh.  I'm sorry.  I misunderstood.  Some pretty low end IEM's.  Bose tri-port in ears.

Yeah, I know the phones are not in line with what the amp can do.  I will say that it has vastly improved the sound.  I'm still shopping around for real headphones.

Oh man.  We've yet to make an audiophile out of you.  I think you'll enjoy the upgrading experience a whole lot when you eventually upgrade them to higher and higher end stuff.

It's interesting that you got quite a bit of difference out of an IEM with a tube amp.  What kind of differences are you noticing?  Always nice to see little dot owners.

I appreciate the input.  But I'm not sure that the fact that I don't have audiophile grade headphones makes me a non-audiophile.  (However it's defined.)  I have some good musical sense and what I think is some decent audio hardware (headphones aside).

I do very much look forward to the headphone upgrade path, however.  Unfortunately, though, I can't currently afford to do much about my loudspeakers, source, amplification, etc, so I'm kinda stuck there....  (Altough, it ain't bad... smile.gif)

cheers,

I meant it in an upgrade way.  You'll have fun hearing improvements in the sound with every upgrade you do to your headphone rig-- rather it be getting progressively better headphones or other dedicated source components.  No snobbery intended.

None taken, sir.

As far as headphone amps, tubes, headphones, and most other things are concerned I have plenty to learn.  And I look forward to spending time on these forums to get some answers.

does MKIII power enough to push DT880 600?

congrats man but you really need to upgrade your headphones. These amps are beasts waiting to bounce on you and you need the proper headphones to let them do that. They want to come out and play so be sure to shop around for good headphones. If you need some recommendations, just go to the headphone section and you can see a bunch of forums ranging on how much you're willing to spend on it.

I would suspect so, tube amps generally pair well with high impedances. Not to mention they power my AKG 702s quite nicely which is rare for a tube amp in this price range considering how hard these headphones are to drive nicely.
