i have been looking around this forum(for sale and trade) for an iem(westone 4,sm3's). but so far have failed to find a deal. i have pm'ed a couple of pm showing my interest. but have not heard back.does two pms a day restriction applies to the amount of pms i receive as well. i have been using avforums( uk ) for sale and trade but this site is differentblink.gif. is there any thing i am doing wrong or missing?

I see a LOT of recommendations from Head-Fiers to newer members to check the FS forums for deals on HPs and HP gear. Thats ok as long as people are careful and understand that there are in fact risks. Personally I have entered into deals with other Head-Fiers and more than half of the time they have not turned out well. Also, folks seem to want to get 90% of their money back a lot. And lots of folks are happy to spend almost as much on used gear as new, which I don't quite understand. I know that in most cases the gear is in fine shape and works like new, but for me to give up the ability to return/exchange or have warranty support, I'm looking to pay a lot less. But to answer your question, many Head-Fiers are leery of newer members that want to buy gear. Personally I don't quite get that either. It's new sellers that folks should be leery of. Hang in there and actively participate in forum discussions to get your post count up. Good luck, and welcome to Head-Fi.

thanks.

i would personally get a new gears but here in uk its way too expensive. eg. westone 4 costs about $430 in us but here its about $560 i just cant justify paying an extra $100. do mods here monitor the sale and trade or not? in avforums the deal is sorted out in the thread and only move to pm for bank details, address etc.... if a fraud is caught he is banned and if necessary his details are forwarded to the police. i am NOT saying that FS forum here is bad(dare i say) its just that deal seems to happen in pm not on the thread itself. yeah so anybody selling westone 4 let me know(transforming this thread into a cheeky wanted thread) tongue_smile.gif(yeah mods feel free to edit my post if i have  violated any rules).

I have 60+ buy and sell transactions on Head-Fi and only once have I baulked. I backed out of a sale because there were too many red flags, foreign country, not the buyers PP account, asked to mail to an address other than the PP address...etc. Your nubie status will give some members pause but that will change as your post count increases. Open a verified PayPal account if you don't already have one. The vast majority of transactions are done through PP, it also gives the seller a sense of security if the address he's mailing to goods to is the address on the PP account.

I've never had any problem, yet. But I've only dealt with head-fiers who have been here awhile and all of my dealings were for ~$300 or less.
