Everything has been running smoothly with my X-FI HD USB card. However today, when i plugged my headphones into the jack on the front, as i usually do, I could here white noise. I've never had this problem before. I don't know whats causing it. It is very loud. However when you play music, you don't notice it.

I played around with the mixer and discovered the noise dissapears when i mute the "mic/line/phono-in".

Why is this? Why now after it was fine before.

What happens when you run on battery power?

Mine does the same thing. I've tried everything to solve it and ultimately I had to remove the x-fi usb from the equation. Now I have no more hiss between songs.

You changed something? My device works perfectly. Only noise is AC from computer.

Mine always had that hiss or white-noise sound when no music or sounds were being played. The funny thing is this only happened when i was using headphones. If the headphones were disconnected and everything was running through to speakers then there wasn't that hissing sound. Strange but as soon as I disconnected my X-Fi USB card the hissing went away.

I owned the standard (first version) Creative X-Fi 5.1 external sound card. I think they make two additional units above mine.
