Looking for different Audio Technica AD900 Pads.

The stock AD900 pads really irritate my skin and makes it itchy so I need something else to replace it because I can't wear these headphones for more than 5 minutes, but I love them! I searched around and found that Audio Cubes has some solutions like the ATH-W5000 replacement pads, but it's way too expensive ($100 for those pads)! Does anyone know any other alternatives that are much cheaper? I prefer not to do some fancy DIY stuff as I am not good with those, but if there's a simple DIY I might give it a try. Otherwise, I'd much prefer something I can just buy, so I can just pop out the stock pads, and simply pop in the new ones. Thanks for any help!


EDIT: How are the ATH-W1000 pads compared to the ATH-W5000 pads?

Do they fit? Also, what's the difference between the W1000 and the A1000 Pads? They seem the same.

I think the materials audio technica uses on their pads range from:

 

Velour       Pleather        Artificial leather      Ecsaine         Genuine Leather

AD500       A700              W1000                      A2000            W5000

AD700       A900                                                                      L3000

AD900

 

I can't comment much on the materials, but Ecsaine is kind of a cool material.  I'm not sure if it will cure your itching problem.  I don't really like pleather though.

 

The places I know to get them are audiocubes II and bluetin.com.  I wonder if you can get the higher end pads from audio technica.  They often hand out the velour pads for free if you call them.

 

The pads are either angled or flat which will determine if they fit I believe.

bumping this thread - the AD900 drivers kind of touch my ears a bit and after a while it does get rather annoying. does changing pads help with this at all, or should I just look into a new headphone? confused.gif

there's also the new pads for the AD900X, that are angled. haven't tried but they seem to be angled better, and deeper. though the material is likely the same, so if your skin gets irritated it won't help.
