Review & Appreciation: Spiral Ear SE 5-way Reference - A new level of resolution? (Review posted... - Page 117

In my view, the only tax we should pay at importing such product to our country is custom duty (IMHO VAT should not be applied since the CIEM is not purchased in connection with any business activity we carry out, unless of course it is connected with such activity and then VAT should be applicable).
But okey, I will check it. In Poland, in the worst case scenario we are talking about additional 34% of the net value of the imported product, so the price of Hidition will become equal to SE 5way.
Does Hidition declare small value for customs purposes?

I paid 200 pound (320$) for my NT6 when it was imported in UK, which is about hmm...25% of the price.

Anyone here is looking forward to get Calyx M to pair with SE5way?

Amber!  Don't even think about it; you've got a masters to pay for! LOL!

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 90

Definitely not. It had potential, but they failed to pick up on missing ingredients. It would have been easy to learn from other companies mistakes and capitalize on something truly missing.

Still not writing it off, but right now I'm interested in what the amp section is looking like.

lol :D I am not able to pay for every dap in the market and test them with my own ears so I would like to see reviews. I am interested because M has more power than ZX1 so maybe they can drive them more efficiently. Also I like the ESS Sabre chip (I hope they don't use the lower performance mobile version, still waiting for clarification on dac chip). Yes, the dap has its own negative sides but I would like to see how they sound together. One can get curious I guess :happy_face1:

LOL! Yeah, I know - I'm a far worse offender than you, in terms of the gear that interests me but which I am (currently) unable to afford.

Your post just spontaneously made me laugh, so I couldn't resist pullin' your leg

Some SE-5 owners say that it particularly thrives upon high voltage swing. The Calyx-M is listed as follows: "Output Voltage : 1.25V rms"

Others, here, are better experienced than me, as to how that compares to others DAPs/Amps, but I suspect that's quite low.

My guess is that the Calyx-M may turn out to be an absolute peach of a transport/DAC, which sings like nothing else on the market, when amped with a Portaphile 627 or whatever.

I'm hoping the ZX1 has enough juice, but if it doesn't I might opt for the M. It really depends on how the usability side goes. They haven't mentioned what OS they are going to be using, which is one of my complaints I've had with the 901, DX100, DX50 and even the AK120 to some extent.

Edit: Nevermind they are using the MUSE UI/OS. That is promising.

Greed and Mim would tell us how ZX1 performs, if it has enough juice so we can more or less guess about M too. Sound-wise Mim said they pair nice together. Volume-wise, even 50% is more than enough apparently but volume levels alone don't do the judgement. Driving them properly is more important. I guess after you guys take your time with ZX1/SE5way we would see some nice impressions. Help these audiophile poor people to spend their money once and don't cry afterwards :happy_face1:

I have not had much time with the SE5 / ZX1 combo but found it quite nice. On the other hand, a friend finds it not powerful enough...each has his own requirements.

Thanks for the inputs Mim, as usual you are great. I guess after you take your time, we can get a mini-review?

I will say more when I have had time. Unfortunately, I have a problem with my SE5....
I have been wearing braces for a year (I am 34 I know...) and I think the straightening of my jaw altered my canal shape...so now my right ear SE5 is too tight and I have to get it adjusted...

At first I thought it was my NT6 that had a fit issue, but it was actually my ears...since my Roxanne prints are recent, I hope it will not be an issue...

Best of luck with that, mate.

That sucks. Does the tight fit cause pain or pressure to the ear? Try some lube ;). The left side of my jaw has been giving me issues lately. I don't know why but at times when I eat I end up cracking my jaw. I think this time I dislocated it lol. Have to figure out how to get it back into place....

Oh, bad news. I think you were in Eu, maybe while you are here around, you can solve the problem too. Best of luck with refitting mate.
