my Ety stems fixed for free

Thread Starter
My several year (or more) old ety ER-4S's just returned to me with all new components for free. These guys are really great! While it would be nice if they could figure out a way to make those plastic stems less delicate, replacing the drivers for free when they eventually do break is hard to complain about. I've read about this kind of thing before. So here's just yet another report. These guys obviously stand by their product in a big way. From now on I'm going to be even more careful getting those foamies on and off.

That's great for you, but they charged me 70 or 80 dollars for the same repair. So, Etymotic is only nice to some people.

I guess that Etymotics must like me also. I had the same repair done free of charge.

Funny! I really don't mind paying for the repair. It's just that they're so inconsistent and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Service has always been competent and fast, and they make a terrific product. Then again, Shure is also in the Chicago area.

Spoke too soon. I guess they must hate me also. I unfortunately broken the stem again, but this time they are charging me $85 for the repair. For $130, I can get the transducer replace along with the new braided cable. Geez

Yeah, they charged me about $80 for the repairs too. I didn't know what to think when I heard that some people were getting their repairs for free.

I think the best policy is to ask how much it's going to cost, and why, before sending your Etys in for repair.

I hope that now that Etymotics is facing some serious competition from Shure, they might revisit the rather inadequate physical design of their product.

I just sent my Ety's back.

I got them back yesterday -- they had found a damaged driver and replaced it with a brand new one. For the hell of it, they replaced the other driver for free too! They also included a 1/4" adapter, because I didn't send mine to them and they thought I lost it! Hah. Also, they saw I didn't have four filters in the little test tube, so they included four more... For free! They also glossed my cable over with this weird looking finish. They are much shinier now and resist water better (I found this out by accident). And they are not brand new headphones because I checked the serial numbers before and after I sent them in to be repaired and they were the same...

Talk about service!
Couldn't be happier.

P.S. I'm listening to Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd on my iPod encoded at 320kbps right now, and I couldn't be happier! Imagine how this will sound on the NEC CDR-602, Muse 2 Plus DAC, and HR-2 with AD-8065's system that will be done in a week!

Again, couldn't be happier!

Well, now that I think about it, I was very forceful on the phone.
Maybe if you push for what you want, they will give in to you.
I mean, I argued and they, in turn, treated me like a proverbial god.
