JVC HA-FX700 review : WOODEN KING of Dynamic iems
Oct 15, 2013 at 11:44 PM Post #241 of 274
I just received my fx700's. They have about 9 hours of burn in and right off I can say for me they sound significantly better in all areas compared to my ie80 and my monster miles davis. Playing flac through cowon iaudio 9. If these do indeed get better as the burn in continues that would be amazing. Bass is about the same quantity as the ie80 and miles davis, but quality is better. Mids are amazing, and the detail is a lot better. Sound stage is way more open compared to the miles davis and maybe a tad better than the ie80. This was a good purchase.

Sorry for reviving the thread guys, but im really interested in these iem's. Ive read all 241 posts but never had an answer for my question..

Are they good for EDM? Like sample based hiphop-mixed with electronica's synth bass and a bit of dubstep. Do they reproduce those elements nicely?

Coming from the Shure SE215 SPE with Fiio RCSE1, Im looking for an iem with more details but still has bass. I really dont like these bassy iems without details anymore. Does the FX700 supply adequate bass for bass-based music?

Since you already have a Fiio SE-RC1 with you, I recommend you getting the new FX850 instead.

Those had cleaner mids thanks to a more well-textured bass in comparison to the FX700. Not to mention the FX850s scales well with your Fiio Cable and adds a touch of body to electronic synths.

(Yup you heard that right, the FX850 utilizes detachable cable and best part of all, it shares the same MMCX connector as your Shure earphones)

I'm already bidding on a set of FX700's. If by chance I don't get outbid, I'm going to need an extension cable. Has there been any kind of consensus for which cables are suitable for FX700s? I might go with the HA-FX750 if I end up getting outbid; the FX850's are about $70 more.

I used to use them with the Shure's short extension cable for IEMs, those worked pretty well for me!

Has anyone experience sibilance or buzzing in one channel only of the HA-FX700? There's like a buzz or post-audio resonance with mids and high-mids; it seems like it's only in the left channel. It gets more noticeable the louder the volume. I've only tried it with one source (my computer's onboard audio); I might do some more experimenting with other sources. Taking the left monitor apart and trying to fix the buzz isn't an option; they have no warranty and can't be registered or RMA'd from the US, and I'd end up breaking it worse. Any clue in regards to the cause? Seems like it might be two pieces contacting incompletely or pieces contacting that were never meant to contact each other.
I'm a little peeved right now, but not too surprised based on a long history of buying defective products second-hand; I bought the IEMs from a seller in Russia (who must have bought his indirectly or directly from Japan); I'm in the US.

Nope, nothing like that with either pair of FX700s I've used.

By the way, finally got the hang of using these over-the-ear. Over-the-ear and with a shirt clip makes them considerably more useable when walking around and whatnot.

How warm are these? I've only tried a couple high-endish earbuds/IEMs so far, Hifiman RE-600 and IE80 and both sounded way too bright/thin to me. I'm looking for a sound more like my Sennheiser HD595s (over ear).

Also, is the sound isolation really bad on these? I'm actually looking for something with very low/non-existant noise isolation as I need these to take to work (so I need to be able to hear co-workers etc.)

Would anyone like to take a shot at repairing the buzz in the left monitor of my 700's? My options are to sell them (the most likely scenario) and go with a more neutral set of IEMs (I might get a set of OTEs and drop IEMs due to a hearing semi-impairment I've developed), or get the buzz fixed and continue to use them. I'm growing less tolerant of defects, especially considering the amount of shopping to get them.

I just went through an old Monster tip sampler and found some great options for these, which was a good thing as I had tried them before with different IEMs and didn't like those tips so much. Somehow the Sony Hybrids got lost so I'm glad they worked out this time!

Have you tried Comply tips?
