Seems to have gotten awesome reviews even from our legendary reviewer ClieOS. I currently own a FiiO E5 > RE-0 and thinking of a bang-for-the buck upgrade for my mobile music gear. Should I get it?

Yes, you will hear a huge difference, and you can call it amped sound at that point. CMoy is 9 or 18v, and opamp swappable. E5 is kinda like those cellphones on display, its not a real cellphone. I know E5 is like $20, but not worth it especially if the product is not doing what it is marketed as. Most people that say E5 is great are people that has not tried a real amp, and they are not aware of what a real amp does. After using E5, and found RE0 frequency response changed for the worse and sounded muddy. Mind you this is based on Sony DAP and RE0's synergy, and adding E5 in between was a bad idea. Ideal amp should be as linear as possible. I told myself never to buy another FiiO product.
Edit: FiiO cables are very fairly priced, and well made. I like their cables.
How is this amp for the AKG K701's? Will it drive them well, or should i stick with my Astro Mixamp?
You want to amp K701 portably? I used to ask the same question when I was a noob here, it was much worse. I recall asking if there was a portable amp to use Beyer 600ohm portably.
Good times. Anyway, 701s are hard to drive, which mean they require alot of power, and potable amps run on small batteries. So, not good idea, your battery would die quick. You can try it, and I would recommend putting two 9v batteries and test how it sounds, and how long before the battery dies.
