I would not at all mind if there were a nuclear power plan just down the street from where I live. It's clean and safe power. People lose sight of just how outdated the reactor design at Fukushima Daiichi was...

To little research to really say it´s safe. It´s certainly better then using fossile fuels though but dunno if I would want to live next to a nuclear reactor no matter how "safe"... Human factor is always at play.

There's been plenty of research in the area of nuclear power. It's not voodoo magic. Fukushima Daiichi would have been fine if the backup generators were located inside the containment like Fukushima Daini. 

 

Newer designs are so fault tolerant that even multiple human errors could not cause meltdown. And it IS the safest/unit energy, even beating out wind and solar:
