I would not say that at all. Most computers that I have disassembled have a much smaller piezoelectric speaker for the post beep, and a seperate paper cone speaker for audio, like the ones you show in your pics.

I have driven similar speakers with a BUF634 to uncomfortably loud levels. You shouldn't expect it to sound like nice monitors, but it will work. I still have one on the bench for occasional testing and whatnot.

You should keep them for a future experiment when it pops into your head.

I happen to like paper much better than plastic when it comes to headphone drivers.

I never considered using for a practice amp. That was a pretty nifty idea dsavitsk. Did the stages have sufficient gain to overdrive the inputs adding some distortion?

I say build the headphones, if nothing else just for practice. Then once you have an idea of what you're doing, buy some nicer drivers (or salvage a pair from some broken headphones) and try again.

I totally agree with miskatcitnamor and Armaegis. Build the darn thing if only because it seems like tons of fun. Who knows, we might have the next John Grado here.

Hell, I know I'd make it in a heartbeat, just for the sake of doing it.

No... I lied.  I'd hook it to a CMoy and attempt to blow it.  I'd just try to break it.

Hook them up the desktop amp and see which blows first...

Hmm...  I guess my limited knowledge is showing again.  higher impedance headphones draw less current, so these 8ohm speakers would suck more current than the deskamp would probably throw at it, right?  Which would overheat the amp, of course.  I hope I got that right.

Guys i would gladly make them into headphones IF i knew where to start , what do i do from here?

Find something to make the cups and headband, add padding, add wires & connect to jack, plug into a receiver, voila!

Do you have a spare pair of cans there? Start with replacing the drivers with your "new"ones. That would be a good start.

Don't forget to post your steps and results please!
