Cowon C2 Impression and Discusion Thread - Page 9

okay got the green light to upload the pictures. this is version 1 of the mod, the only differences from the final version is the use of even larger caps, in addition to a pair of film caps for bypass.

as with so many other things, it might just be a placebo effectwink.gif but an rmaa(unfortunately i have no idea where i placed the file) did show the improvement in the FR for bass at least.

hey i dont take any credit for this LOL... my friend is the one who put in the hours of research and then development. i merely supplied him with the d2s.

Very nice work!

thanks for the compliments. i'll convey them on to my friend.:) after trying the many different combinations he came up with, it feels like the mod colours the music somewhat. it's actually what i had hoped the d2+ successor would be..

Please do and let us know what you think! Hope the pictures will suffice, my friend didn't take many during the modding process. I remember he used a heated metal stick to melt the hole in the casing for the caps, if that helps.

I must say I am surprised no one else has tried to mod the d2 considering what a nice player it is to begin with, with a decent wolfson dac and powerful amp section.

No problem, as far as I know the D2 has some Wolfson DAC. I will use the Datasheet and will search the caps... but I will buy a second hand D2 for that.

It's using the wm8985. Here's the link to the datasheet

Though, there is a reference schematic in the Datasheet, it is probably better to look into the evaluation board schematic. I do not think Cowon themselves are to much off from this layout. If you go to page 3, the HP-out schematic. You probably exchanged Capacitor 9 and 11.

Well, I must go to bed now...

16ohm original(credits dfkt)                                           modded

managed to do a FR for the different iems and the mod. bass rolloff is now at -2db at 30hz for 18ohm IEMs, pretty decent if you ask me. unfortunately the rest of the rmaa test is kinda useless because of my crappy soundcard. ignore the purple impedance adapter. it's meant to be the unloaded control. typo on my part.

Well I have mine on the way.  I've wanted a Cowon for a while and I really haven't enjoyed using my Galaxy Player.  Battery life, SD card, and audio quality all sound like a great combo to me 8)

I do hope you enjoy yours. I really like mine and so far my only complaint is the UI but it honestly could get a lot worse.
