For £50 it definitely is. Because Cowons sound so clean and dry, I tend to use coloured headphones, like the ESW9, with them.

Unless you get into the BBE stuff....and without that, they don't sound any better than anything else. I traded mine away because on flat settings, my Touch 4G and rockboxed Clip+ sounded just as good, and they are a lot more user-friendly.

Aaand this BBE, Mach3, etc. makes it controversial to use/develop custom-roms for Android-Cowon devices (Z2,D3,...). Cowon is stuck right now. They should make a major step, although also a discutable one, like iRiver did.

From all of the Cowon UIs, D2 is the best, at least for me.

I agree, as my D2+ gets no usage, but my iPods (5.5G, Mini, and touch 4G), clipzip, and even Sony get more luv.

The Cowon UI is known to be unfriendly,... I do understand that the D2+ an C2 do have certain differences, but the underlying settings are quite similar. The sq is wonderful on all actually, but the others are just so much easier to use.

And with Rockbox on some, or a nice EQ app on the touch, the Cowon dap's all lose their edge. And I used to ONLY rave about Cowon.

Cowon really is no longer king of the castle I'm afraid,...wink.gif

I went the opposite way.. I had the iPods mated with amps, sonys, Sansas, and creative players, but eventually went back to the d2+.. I had a DIY savvy friend tinker with my d2+ and replace the cheap and small capacitors the d2 had, now it sounds fantastic without the bass roll off that the cowons are famous for. It also looks really ugly because we had to mod the case to contain the larger caps tongue.gif Hopefully the c2 will allow modifications as well, Especially since my d2 + is getting along in age

Yes, it is undeniable, Cowon has a great, clear, detailed, natural sound.

But for me, coming from Samsung P3 it is just difficult to get used to it. Sound stage is smaller, and the sound is simply not that exciting. Maybe not that coloured...

Perhaps it is just like I need some time getting used to 'healthy food' after 'chocolate overdose'... But I still need some time... Even if it is clearer and more detailed than Samsung, simply not that enjoyable...

This looks rather badass than ugly. Though this is not TSA approved. How does sound change exactly?

i'm not a very technical person but i'll try to describe the change.

1)most obvious change is that the bass rolloff has been fixed.

2)spaciousness.. it sounds less congested than before the mod.

3) warmth. the cowon sounded cold before, but i think the caps (panasonic) might have something to do with this.

i'll have to check with my friend if he is willing to release more pictures of the mod itself, and if he is, i will upload them later
