Need headphone amp for computer?

My brother was wondering would you need a headphone amp for good headphones (600ohn) if you have them directly plugged into a soundcard (Creative X-Fatality Gaming Soundcard)?

Yes, you will need a dedicated amp. Most sound cards can really only run headphones up to ~32 ohms. Even with my relatively low impedance HD595 headphones (50ohm) I noticed quite an improvement adding a FiiO E9 to the system while running on my Xonar D2X (which is a superior card to that Fatality card you have there).

If you check out Asus' Xonar line, some of them are told to be able to drive 600 ohm cans perfectly. I haven't been able to try it out though so I can't varify.
