Recommend me a good headphone amplifier

I am in the market for a great headphone amp for my DT770 250 Ohm and potentially Atrio M5 / Sennheiser IE8, maybe the Denon ad-h7000s later. The philosophy is I want something very good so I don't have to worry about upgrading the amp almost no matter what headphones I get in the future be it low or med-high ohm headphones. Portability is completed irrelevant, it will sit on my desktop hooked to a computer sound card.

Budget: $800-900

It will be used for electronic music listening. Everything else comes second. Here's an example of the kind of music I listen to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUbV8092aK0

If applicable, my priorities in sound quality is as follows:

1. Perfectly controlled bass out of any headphone

2. Wide soundstage

Unfortunately I don't know if tube amps are for me as I have never tried one but I'm having a hunch that might be what I'm looking for. You decide.

It's a big plus if it's available new from retailers in Europe due tax. (If you don't know shoot anyway) :)

Thanks in advance.

I've been using a $60 Muse tube headphone amp with my Beyerdynamic DT 770 80-Ohm, bought it off eBay, shiped from China.

Thanks for chipping in but I'm aiming a bit higher than that. And for the record I'm not buying from china, it may be a chinese product but It's gotta be sold nearby. Just for kicks, how does that tube amp compare to your onkyo reciever? Or anything else you have?

The Muse Tube amp fills in the bass with the DT 770 (80 Ohm), something the AD700s could not do.

Have not succesfully hooked the Muse up to the Onkyo to compare the Muse to it.

But I would guess the Muse would help the DT 770s, over the Onkyo.

A long time ago I hooked the Muse up to my Comcast cable box, using the AD700s.

The Muse made the AD700s a little better over the Onkyo's headphone connection.

I'm currently looking at building a Millett Mosfet Hybrid Max.

That seems like a proper amp that Millet Mosfet, good luck with that! If you're done any time soon post your verdict on the sound ;)

The HA-160 is a nice choice if you're looking for whats mentioned above. ^ priced around $700

Or, if you want something with DAC/Amp, there's the 160D.

You should be able to get a nice M^3 with bass control built for that price range. Terrific amp. The Beta22 gets more attention, but it would be hard to pull one off for $800-$900 unless you build it yourself. As for tubes, you'd need one with output transformers if you want low impedance performance. I don't know of any in that price range. Output transformers tend to be expensive and you wouldn't want the cheap ones. But you can have a terrifoc solid state amp with your budget.

Looks great. Would anyone dare say wether this Burson HA-160 is better or worse for me than the Musical Fidelity M1 HPA? Those two amps both look like champs.

Yes at this point I'm leaning towards solid state amps too. Thank you for this information.

Unfortunately the Concerto is not for sale anymore otherwise I would highly recommend it. I may put it for sale and get the headroom BUDA. I preferred the Concerto's sound signature to the Burson HA-160 which sounded too bright for my tastes. The GS-1 is also a good sub $1k SS amp.

This morning I jumped the trigger on the M1 HPA. I'm very excited and can't wait to use the built-in dac by USB from my computer. I have a good feeling about this one.
