Audez'e LCD 2 vs Denon D7000 ? - Page 3

Agree 100% that the D7000 is more comfortable than the LCD-2. Significantly more comfortable, in fact, although I don't find the current gen LCD-2 to be uncomfortable at all.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Once you get into these high end headphones its all about personal preference, what sounds good to some may sound like garbage to others, that is why I just laugh at some of the comparisons made in this forum.

We all hear things differently and personal reviews are purely just opinion.

I got D2k and HD600 for less than $500, so even with a good deal I would still pass on D7k. Honestly I don't see a place for D7k as there are lower models for better value and if I'm upgrading to high-end I'd probably go straight to LCD-2. Of course this is just my personal preference. smily_headphones1.gif

Have you ever owned a pair of D7K's.

Friend let me burrow one for a week. Either way I have easy access to headphones since I can just take a train up to J&R which I assume most people get their D7k. They're clearly better than D2k, but it doesn't beat a D2k + HD600 combo.

Really? the best ever?! Damn..U make me wanna order one...I got D5000 already. So I dun think I will try out D7000 although I heard from ppl saying they are completely different. But I doubt my ears can tell that difference

x2...I no longer own my D7000s, but the LCD-2s are simply the best headphones I've ever heard. The D7000s are not by a good margin.

Funny that you mention that combo, because I've had the chance to hear a friend's rig that had those two headphones.  And I can tell you, the D7000s definitely beats the combination.  The D7000 is an amazing pair of headphones, and I believe a good step between the D2000 and LCD-2s.  I got extremely luck and jumped on a great D7000 deal so I didn't have to mess around with mid-fi to find the right sound, but for somebody who didn't have the same fortune I still think it's a good bridging headphone.

LOL, It beats 'em like a rug.

I'm sure there are people who think HD600 beats D7k head-to-head, so in the end it's all preference I guess. Maybe I should've taken easy saying D7k not having a place lol I definitely think they're worth $600-$700. But IMO the difference between D2k and D7k is smaller than say HD600 and HD800, so D7k to me is borderline high-end.

Again, personally I'll take 2 mid-tier phones over D7k any day. I've yet to find a headphone I could be happy with just one pair. Maybe LCD-2 will be the one.

That seems to be the issue with Headphones period, though.  We get greedy with upgradeitis and want all the sound we can get.  The difference between the D2K and D7k might be smaller than HD600 and HD800, but I don't think it's purely quality.  The HD800 - at least from the review on here I read - is on the brighter side in comparison to the HD600.  The sound signature as a whole just seems different, while the D2k and D7k have an almost identical sound signature.  I'm a lot more qualified to tell about the differences between the D2k and D7k - I've actually had a good a/b session with them - but that's my $.02 on it.
*waits for Skylab to completely destroy HD600/HD800 comparison*

The Sennheiser comparison wasn't the main point. It was merely just an example. There's nothing to "completely destroy".

I know, but I lack sufficient experience with the HD600 to say that the difference between it and the HD800 is not that stark.  I should have said "my comparison" due to this.  Also, it's a good comparison, because the cost vs. performance ratio is an important factor in choosing a headphone, and the difference between a headphone line's mid-fi and flagship models should be rather stark.

Sennheiser HD6xx to HD800 is a huge jump, most definitely bigger than D2000 to D7000. However, the price difference is also bigger if you're talking street price. As for the D7000 being "borderline high end" that completely depends on your genres. For Classical or anything slow and laid back, you are correct, they don't have the chops to compete with the other High end staples. For Metal, Electronic, Hard Rock etc they are most definitely high-end, and in fact they are possibly the #1 cans for Electronic. I'm very anxious to get my LCD-2's this Tuesday and decide which of these two is better for me.

I own 7000s and have listened to LCD-2s a few times. I personally found the latter a little dull compared to the fun sound of the 7000s. So it's definitely not an immediate thing. I will at some point pickup some LCD-2s for some proper A/Bing, and who knows, with some brain burn-in maybe I'll grow to love 'em more?

I have the newer edition of the LCD-2 and found them to be supremely comfortable; slightly less than the D7ks.

As for SQ, TO ME there really is no comparison. Midrange is much better, isolation is top notch, highs are not spiky while the bass is much more refined and less boomy. Since the D7ks sell for $800+ now, it's really a no-brainer to pick the LCDs over the Denons.

I'm more interested in a detailed comparison between your T1 and LCD-2 biggrin.gif
