Yes, that's what I've done; and, it seems to me that 24/96 sounds best.

Then if that's how it sounds best to you, it's your best settings. It's a rule that some people sometimes forget, what sounds good to you is what you find as good sound. While reviews and thoughts of other people on hardware and software can indeed act as useful tips, they're not strict guidelines, mainly because everyone has different tastes and ears.

Bottomline is, tweak and play with your system until you find what you like best. Then you will have your sound of choice, so please have a blast biggrin.gif

I'm a Mac guy with a Windows XP digital audio workstation. I have tweaked my Mac based iTunes server to get the best quality opoout of it. My experience with iTunes on XP was awful. But that was itunes 7. When I loaded iTunes 10 on my XP machine on a whim, I was quite surprised at how good it sounded. Yeah, Windows XP, 32 bit. Kmixer and all. In fact I have software "PUREWAVE" which bypasses the kmixer but iTunes is not compatible with it, so I was forced to use the WDM driver. Still, it sounded surprisingly good.

Vista and 7 really changed the whole Windows audio game, and it was about time, as that sloppy ancient dinossaur that is XP really should be put to rest, not to mention how it's a hive for all sorts of virus.

I was lucky to have been introduced to foobar2000 a very long time ago, and ever since it has been my player of choice, no doubt there. Though I did install a Winamp visualization plugins bridge, just for kicks.
