Im planning to buy Logitech Z5500 but it has 7.1 system. So that means two speakers are redudant? I currently own 2.1 Altec Lansing FX6021 and im happy with them, but im curious about Z5500.

Is upgrade to 5.1 from 2.1 worthwhile with soundcard stated above?

PS:  And how long are the cables on Z5500, i was thinking putting them on each wall in my room which is not big....would i need longer cables?

This would run on laptop, although it has harman kardon speakers im not exactly thrilled. Expcting more from sound as it matters to me. Currently FX6021 is plugged in but they dont sound right.

The stock cables are quite long, but you can use any regular speaker wire with them.

Is it possible to buy better cables?

You can use any regular speaker wire with them.  They're probably not good enough speakers to warrant better cables though...

If you can get them for < $200 they're a great deal, especially solid for movies and games, maybe not quite as much for music.
