Mp3 player to portable amp cabling questions.

Will this cable work to connect a 3.5mm headphone out from an mp3 player to a 3.5mm input on a portable amp?

I'm not familiar with the term micro mini, isn't it the same cable as this essentially?

http://aloaudio.com/22g-cryo-mini-to-mini.html

and also why is this one $100 more? because of the lower awg?

thanks for any help.

If you're hooking it up to a portable amp, its better to use a line out cable to bypass the internal amp of the MP3 player. Don't hook the amp up from the headphone out. What MP3 player do you have?

All these cable will work to connect a mp3 player with a portable amp. "Micro" doesnt relate to the plug.

It only depends on you if you are willing to spend so much money. You can also do it yourself even though you maybe take another kind of wire..

Relating to ryan45:

You can of course hook up your portable amp by the headphone output of your mp3 player. There is no reason not to do so. The only thing is that you already have an amped signal which is again amped by the portable amp. In this case the main reason why to use a portable amp is when you have high impedance headphones or your mp3 player is just to weak. So it is better in means of the sound to use a line out to bypass the amplification circuit of your player.

So if you hook the amp up to the headphone out, its louder. But if you use line out its better sound quality? sorry, i'm confused confused_face(1).gif

A portable amp amplifies like the name implies :). Actually but dont hit me when I am wrong the line out normally provides a high impedance signal to provide the best audio quality and when a headphone is directly connected the voltage "goes down" (Sry, I dont know how to say in proper english). Further the line out doesnt have a volume regulation. The headphone output instead has low impedance to provide power to the e.g. headphones. So when using the line out all the internal circuit of the headphone out is bypassed and you use a portable amp to amplify..

Don't have it yet but am going to buy a Cowon X7, I hate Itunes with a passion, want big storage and FLAC and aside from going the imod/algorhythmsolo with an old rockboxed 240G Ipod route (which would be great but I can't afford right now), I don't think the SQ difference between an ipod LOD cable to amp and the headphone out of the Cowon (which is supposed to have a good dac/amp) to amp, will be much, headphone route might even be better given the particulars of these 2 DAPS who knows.

I think it is a good choice and you are right that the difference wont be soo much. I am using the latest Philips Muse and actually I am happy after some bugs :)

In my opinion it is the best to like the music of course and this can also be done with a sweet mp3 player and headhpone out. Me too, I ve player with the idea to get a play with Line out just to try it but after a time I ve recognized that my current mp3 player is really good and because of that I even use my portable amp in my office right now instead of its origin destiny..
