Use multiple sound cards simultaneously?

Thread Starter

Hello everyone, I have a question.

I am trying to get two usb sound cards to work with windows 7 at the same time.  They can both have the same audio coming from my pc, I am not trying to split up different sounds to each one.  One is connected to my speakers, and the other is a headphone amp (so not really a sound card I guess, but usb audio none the less).  Is there any way to set this up?  I can't figure out how to make windows 7 output audio to more than just the default audio device.  I know it is an odd set up, but I am trying to make it work.

Thanks everyone,

What USB audio interfaces are you using there?

AFAIK, you can't set system outpu through two output devices w/o VAC/Audiorepeteater (or similiar software) - http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm

IIRC, some dj software can be set to use several audio interfaces.

If you have two sources (media players) then it's possible to set each software to use dedicated audio interface for output.

Why not use onboard sound (or any interface with 4 outputs) the way that Front L/R (outputs 1/2) is for speakers and Front L/R  (outputs 3/4) for headphones?

To have both DAC's play the SAME audio stream can be done in windows 7. The result will be not be bit perfect and there will be a noticable time delay between the two, the sound however, is just fine. If you want to continue, read on~

Basically you need to set your player (my case foobar) to the default "Speakers" selection (no ASIO or kernel streaming as this is all handled by the windows mixer.) You then need to open your Soundcard settings window (Start>Control Panel>Sounds or right click the speaker icon in the taskbar and go to Recording Devices) Make sure that one of the DAC's is the default one and start playing some music and watch which DAC's VU meter starts moving (Mine was iBasso D12 - Stereo Mix). On that one, select it and go to properties then click the Listen tab. Click the listen to this device. Next under the drop down menu select the second DAC and click Okay. This should send what is being input to the first DAC out to the second DAC.

Works for Windows sounds and everything that is normally sent to the default device. Handy trick that may not always work like mine but with a little tinkering around you should be able to get it working.

Good Luck!
