I'm not sure how many of you folks know about the awesome tribal/fusion/beats band "Beats Antique" ... but thought I'd mention that they have made their entire record "Collide" (arguably their best release to date) free for download in MP3 and various other lossless formats such as .FLAC and .ALAC.

If your into groove oriented beats (think Kaya Project, etc.) then you will love this band. And the recordings are phenomenal.

Here's a link to download the record:

Also, as an intro to who and what Beats Antique is, see the video below (and yes,  the dancer is a member of the band; her name is Zoe Jakes. She also plays percussion)

Just downloaded the FLAC version, while this isn't my usual listening style, I'm enjoying the high quality. The recording doesn't even seem to be overly loud. Thanks for the link!

Nice "world music" - I especially liked some of the ones with the horns doing cheezy klezmer sounding arrangements.  Thanks for the tip - lots of talent there.

Reminded me of this. I love Birdy Nam Nam. Also, I'm downloading this.

Edit: It just sounds like something Birdy Nam Nam would cut up on turntables. I really like the...broken (?) sound.

And BTW ... for those who are in to this sort of music ... their live shows are NOT to be missed.

Personally, I like grooving along to this sort of stuff occasionally but it's by no means on heavy rotation. It *is* a fairly significant bit of work, though and the band is killing it on their current tour. Saw them at SXSW in Austin (2010), at a little bar called "momos" and it was incredible. The dance stuff is a nice touch as well. Really fun. That girl goes off!

Enjoy.

This stuff is great! downloading now! Reminds me of some of Shpongle's stuff.

Nice find.  I am liking quite a bit of this album.  It reminds me of Amon Tobin more than Shpongle.

There amazing. Saw them at SXSW a year or so ago. A live show that is def to not be missed.

There's more bands out there in the Fusion/Beats scene but none that I know of with as heavy of a "banjo" influence (he calls "his a middle eastern banjo")

I am, however, at times very much reminded of Kaya Project, who I also enjoy from time to time:

Rock it.

Here's a bit of cel phone recorded live footage from SXSW that a galpal of mine recorded; Beats Antique @ Momos ... Austin, TX ... 2010 ... groove fest!

This particular brief bit features a late night cameo by one John Popper (of Blues Traveler fame) and not being a traditional fan of his or anything, I still have to say, the combination of Beats Antique's rhythm section with the awesome girly beat box vox from "Lynx" (<-the chick beat boxing, yo!) and mixed with the frenetic machine gun harmonica that John Popper has made a name for himself with? ... Shoosh! Well, it's pretty god dawg special. Really awesome show last year in Austin ...

Enjoy:

And yet another from the Beats Antique show last year in Austin @ SXSW ... (if you look real close, you can see my left arm all flapping about in the right side of the screen, up front and all) (blush) ... ;-) :

(and no. I don't know these folks from Adam. And I really don't get much in to this sort of music (more into Alt country than fusion/tribal). But that said, I recognize commitment when I see it and these guys/gals are doing it. A gorgeous thing to look upon! Ummm Hmmm!!)

...

Rock it.
