DIY Project with mostly Radioshack components

Can anyone think of a good beginner DIY project consisting primariliy of stuff I can walk to Radio Shack and get?

Last time I went to the radio shack by me the selection was pretty pathetic. They had 1 color of wire and a tiny selection of resistors. Sad really, they are pretty much all commercial stuff now. Any reason you can't order stuff online from places like Mouser or Digikey, or even easier someone that offers a kit?

I haven't really looked or been reccomended a good starting point - would you reccomend either of these places for a kit? Or even better, I have been wanting to modify my headphone cables, is that fairly high up the DIY learning curve, i.e. should I learn something easier first?

Headphone cabling should be a good starting point. Nothing to badly damage (except the headphones). I would try interconnects first.

Modifying the headphone cable is super easy, so you could use it as a beginning point. And you can look at the Cmoy amp.

DAMN YOU CMOY AMP!

Still don't have mine working. I built speakers but I have given up on that micro version of Satan. I wish I had better eyesight (and soldering skill).

LOL - I too am sight-impaired so maybe I'll give it a go with the cans to start...

Where does one find a good source for headphone cable providers?  Straight from the manufacturer?

http://www.markertek.com/

Search around here for cable and connector recommendations and Markertek should have it.

My Cmoy took foreverrrr. (Just finished it today.)

If you're having trouble for cable, can't go wrong with Canare Star Mini-Quad and Neutrik connectors.
