Senn Mx580 - Removing Inline Volume Control?

I was wondering, would it be possible to rewire the earbuds and lose the useless volume control? Has anybody tried?

I'm not sure if you have to go through all of that trouble.  I can't say for certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if the MX470 was just the MX580 without the volume control.  I haven't tried it myself, but I do own both the MX270 and MX580.  While the MX270 is inferior particularly where detail and resolution is concerned, the overall difference in performance between the two isn't as large as I would have expected judging by the product numbers.  Therefore, I can't really see the MX470 being too inferior to the MX580 when the "three steps" in between the 270 and 580 aren't that huge to begin with.
