Paypal - My first time, how's this damn thing work?

Yeah so I'm dumb, I made an account because I wanted to purchase from Fulcrumaudio.ca.  I did the whole verify your bank account thing and figured finally but now it says 6-8 days to transfer funds to paypal account, for real?  I just want to purchase some IEMs from them am I going to have to put up with this wait time or is there another way?  I'm thinking maybe I have to link my credit card?

Maybe I'm impatient but I usually just use CC for purchases, no hoops you just check out, they process and few days later it's at your house.  I want my IEMs :(

Did you actually try checking out from Fulcrum Audio? You should be able to use your credit card through the PayPal system without transferring funds to your PayPal account.

In one of the checkout steps it just says payment method: paypal (it's the only option) and then in the end it says confirm which I didn't want to do because I don't have any funds in the paypal thing yet.. I know on the site it shows all the credit cards with paypal and all that but in the checkout process it doesn't say anything like that so I don't know if I should confirmconfused.gif

I never have funds in my paypal account.

After I linked my bank account to paypal I just pay with paypal and then paypal withdraws that amount from my bank account.

Paypal works exactly like a Debit card / EFTPOS for me.

I'll link my credit card and then just try to checkout.. if it doesn't work I can kill paypal and continue being a technology dinosaur I guess, there's one more place in Canada that has the nuforce iems but it'll cost $13 more in shipping, oh well.

oh, I guess that is what I wanted to know.  Years ago I used to have neteller for the online gamblingredface.gif, that's how it worked too but I'm a total noob with paypal

thanks!smile.gif

EDIT:  ugh, I'm a moron.  Browsing through the help section in paypal I found the exact same answer right away, somehow earlier when I was looking through there I didn't see it. d'oh!

Great. Have fun!

There is a security risk with using Paypal though, at least for users here (don't know if it's the same for you).

If we pay directly with our bank account we have to go through an extra layer of authentication other than login+password. Most banks require an at-home authentication device that generates a code for each payment, some banks use an authentication code sent to your mobile phone for each payment. My bank uses the mobile phone code method.

With Paypal, however, all I need is my login+password and I can pay. No extra layer of authentication. This does leave users vulnerable to hackers/trojans etc.

I have proper security on my PC and I trust you do as well, I just wanted to let you know.

I remember paypal saying something about security keys when I registered my mobile on my account but I just skipped it.  I'm reading about it now though, it says you can order a seperate device or do it over SMS on your mobile, however it sounds like it's not tied to the withdrawal of funds from your bank and is only for logging in.  I think it sends you a security key through SMS that you use along with login+password to be able to log in.  I don't know for sure, but if you go to "Profile" and under "Account Information" there should be a link called "PayPal security key" you can check it out for yourself.  If it turns out that I will ever need to use PayPal more than just this once then I will try it.
