Effects of components on sound...

This is what i think :

CD / Vinyl - dictates overall sound

Source Component- Should be transparent - Do effect the sound / presentation

Interconnect Cables - should be transparent - dont effect sound unless faulty

Amp - Should be transparent - Do effect the sound / presentation

Digital Cables - Should be transparent - dont effect sound

Speaker Cable - Should be transparent - I Havent heard a difference

DAC - Should be transparent - Do effect the sound / presentation

Speakers - Do effect the sound / presentation

Out of all the above, the order in which they effect sound from a lot to no change is :

CD / Vinyl - with CD i mean jumps / stuttering , with vinyl i just mean degraded - pops, clicks etc.

Speakers - Major diffs between them

Amp - my two amps sound very different , one warm , one sterile and harsh - should sound the same really.

Source component / Dac - Not much here unless valves are involved imo.

Anything else i havent heard any difference at all.

One key thing missing from your list, which has more affect on anything else except possibly loudspeakers, is the room you listen in. Other than that, I agree that wires etc do not change the sound unless defective. The graph below shows the response in a typical home-size room with and without a lot of bass traps. So unless someone has a lot of bass traps, the red line is about what you can expect. I've never seen a speaker that bad.
