$200 -$300 Desktop speakers for listening to music, films and a little bit of DJing practice.

I need a pair of speakers for my mac setup for music and films plus dj practice. They need to be relatively compact. Equal ot or smaller than a pair of A5s.

I wont be producing any music so neutral sound not needed. In fact id prefer a more coloured sound.

Active or Passive but as ill be sat very near to them nearfield is a must. The room is very small.

If i do go passive then my budget will need to include room for an amp.

Second hand is also a possibility.

Budget: 200$ - $300

Are there any models which tick all the boxes and deserve a listen to?

I live in Japan and Audioengines arent sold out here. Atoms too.

Can anyone provide any recommendations?

Ive never used them personaly, but I have talked to people who love these. KRK Rokit 5 monitors.

I have some Mackie Mr5's That in my opinion sound better than the KrK rokit 5's. I suggest going to your local guitar center or audio shop and testing out the displayed speakers. Thats the only way to really get a feel for what you like. I listened to the KrK's, Mackies, HS50ms, and picked the mackie mr5's

Heres some of your options in that price range.

Audioengine A5's

Mackie MR5's

Krk rokit 5's

Yamaha HS50M

M-Audio Bx5a's

NHT Super Zero 2.0 (definately need sub later on)

Behringer truth B2031A

Swans D1080MKII 08

Swans M200MKII  and M200MKII I

Tannoy Reveal 501a
