The MP3: A History Of Innovation And Betrayal

I found this story (read "it was sent to me from some RSS feed") or rather an interview about how mp3 was created. It's more about the IT side of things than music but if someone is interested:

It is not a long read.

But the reason why I wanted to post this here is that in introduction there is a link to an audio interview in which mp3 is comapred to CD qualitiy audio. I know that there been countless discussions about this but for me this interview is the first one where after listening to the comparison (it's in the begining of this audio interview) I really could hear what  compression does to a music file. This is remarkable because I always considered me to be half def when it comes to these things. I mean I like Hi-Fi recordings and when I go back and listen to crappy mp3's once in a while I feel that something is bothering me but it was never this obvious.

Audio interview:

Enjoy!
