I am currently building a racing simulator and plan on having two different listening environments.  One being  5.1 surround sound, and the other being the PX5 headphone/headset.  I would like to use a Buttkicker amp/transducer for both listening environments using an AVR to connect and switch everything for seamless integration.

The audio sources will be from both a PS3 and a PC.  Both will be connected to the AVR via S/Pdif simultaneously.  The Turtle Beach PX5 transmitter/processor will be connected to the AVR's digital optical "out".

Normally, Buttkicker amps are connected to the AVR's sub-woofer line-out or pre-out via an RCA Y-cable, or directly to an "LFE" output (low frequency effects).  This means that a signal must be sent to the sub-woofer.   I want to be able to listen to the PX5 headset, with the Buttkicker, while the surround sound and sub-woofer are not playing.

my questions are-

1.  When I switch an AVR's output to the digital optical out, will the input source continue to play through the AVR's amp section as well?  Meaning, will sound still come out of the sub and speakers?  If so, can I make it so that sound only comes from the sub-woofer and not the speakers when switching to a different audio output (digital optical, for example)?

2. Can I assign  an extra sub-woofer pre-out or pre-amp  (assuming the AVR has 2 sub-woofer outs and/or a pre-amp section) out to a specific audio output without sending signals to the speakers and  sub-woofer "#1" ?

3.  Can i assign an AVR's "LFE" output to any audio output, again, without sending signals to the speakers or sub?

My goal is to just be able to switch between the surround sound and the headset while utilizing the buttkicker system, without having to switch around the wiring and cabling every time.

Are these configurations possible, and if so, which AVR can do them?  My budget is $1000

Thanks in advance to those who post with help and advice.  It is much appreciated.

P.S.  I apologize if this was not the correct place to post for this type of question.
