Greetings,
A friend called today with an interesting question; Hey Joe, when did Michaura go out of business ?
Mildly surprised I asked where he got that as Michaura is alive and well. Apparently there are still posts re
the line of speakers that we introduced in 2001 that indicated that Michaura was bust, bankrupt etc etc as we]
had exited the speaker business in 2002/3.
reality: Michaura has been alive and well for over 20 years. We started out developing high end computer systems,
morphed into building unique solutions for unique clients, and built a strong consulting business. In 1999 we forsaw the
dot.bomb and Y2K bubble bursting and headed to the sidelines for a while. While keeping the consulting side of the business healthy we decided to design a line of high quality speakers that woudl be affordable for most folks.
We introduced the product line in 2001 with a very limited production run to see what the market acceptance would be. And many of you purchased the products and loved what we had created. Unfortunately several events occurred that fall: 9/11 created a damper on consumer spending within our target audience of 20-somethings; Apple introduced the iPod which also exacerbated the market issue. Why buy a decent system which would cost a grand when Apple offered iPods for a few hundred bucks.
Our original go-to-market was through a number of campus reps and 911 and the iPod put a serious damper on that channel.
The manufacturer that we had selected to build the M-series of product wanted a large second phase order and we basically said
we've had some fun, created a good product, and the computer business is looking likely to pick up in 03 so we decided to keep a few speakers for our own use and stopped the manufacturing run.
There has been a lot of speculation as to whom we chose as the manufacturer and I'd love to let you know but both Michaura and the manufacturer have non-disclosure agreements inplace that we(at least) intend to honor.
we are alive, the computer business is alive and perhaps we'll get bored with computers again and come out with another product set.
Think 64 bit a/d and d/a
Best to all and thanks to those that purchased our products 10 years ago and still enjoy them
Joe
