It's true.

The early 681's had bright red accents and the highs were very piercing.

The later ones had maroon colored accents and the highs were smoother but still pretty bright.

There was a third one, which was also maroon colored, and even less bright, but still bright.

I know it's a very biased topic to ask that question but I will anyway.

Looking for replacement of my CAL!. They are just not comfortable. Cups are a but small and headband hurts after 30minutes. Looking mainly at 668b or evo. Or their closed counterparts.

I want something that wont sound worse, but will be more comfortable and have detachable cable. I like warmer headphones... fun let's say. Ones where I can play company of heroes and hear explosions. But at the same time I am listening to a lot of 8-16 bit music, chiptune or dubstep. So it's fun all-arounders for me.

Anyone have an opinion on this ? Btw. I don't like plush earcups. they get covered in dust and sweat quickly. I like skin(or skinlike) pads. Best I've ever had were memory foams on fatality mkii headset which sounded terrible and mushy

Logitech UE6000 is a supremely comfy closed back that both looks good, and sounds great for 80$. By comfy, I mean deep and big pads. One of the most comfortable headphones I've worn, and I've worn the HD800 and other flagships lol. Warm sound. One thing: Superlux's in general are bright. Haven't tried Evo but its apparently less bright than the others? I highly suggest UE6000 though. Really great passive isolation to boot.
EDIT: Logitech UE6000's have memory foam protein leather pads. Is that a problem or by mushy did you mean velour?

Would love logitech but those are not available in Poland at all. not on allegro(polish ebay) or at ANY store. online or not.

Wonder how EVO is and how 669 is since it's closed

ah... Not even Amazon? Aww. Well I got nothin' then.

We dont have polish amazon and with delivery cost, they would be too expensive.

I might add - looking for sub 70$ option to replace CAL! (because this is how much cal was)

Isnt evo a bit more bassier ? Is there a closed evo ? (but I dont require em to be closed. it's a secondary requirement)

I have 668B and 631. 631 is more efficient and does not need an amp. 668B sounds okay without an amp, but amp does help. 668B highs are a little fatiguing at higher volumes. 668B has better clarity, but 631 is fuller and warmer. 631 has more bass, more midrange, less treble - and slightly less clarity. Both are fine for listening to music. 631 sounds like it has treble rolloff compared to 668B, but I can't listen to 668B for extended periods at moderate volume due to somewhat piercing highs. I can listen to 631 all night long - except the clamping force gets to me after about 5 hours. 668B sounds fuller and less fatiguing if I clamp the cups down with force into my ears - but it's unnatural to do that. 631 sounds doesn't really change when clamped down further onto my ears. 668B cups get sweaty and wet after about 1/2 hour of listening, 631 doesn't seem to do that.

631 is better for vocal recording as monitors (mostly adult contemporary genre) - something weird about the 668B when used for that - could be that my particular voice is somewhat notched out when 668B is used for vocal monitors. However, vocal monitoring uses much higher volume than music listening.

I still listen to both. The 631 much much (like 8x) more than the 668B. When using both out in public as a hands-free device (must use female to female 3.5mm adapter and then a hands-free cable ala V-Moda or Beats), I get asked about the 631 but not the 668B. For some reason, people ask if I like rap when they see me with 631, but I get no comments or questions about the 668B. My Moto X  can drive both to good listening volume, but sometimes I find the volume must be at max for the 668B, 631 does not need to be at max.

I prefer the 631 overall - and wish they were lighter and put into a headband like the UrbanEars Platten. I have taken drivers from a 668B and stuck them in such a headband and loved the result until the smaller headband broke. Drivers in a smaller headband are great for out and about listening, but are not appropriate for club work or studio recording work. I need to get a 2nd 631 before I do this with the drivers. I had 2 668Bs when I did it with one of them.
