Cant wait till someone has both the SR850 and the HD 668 as so far there has been a discrepancy in the bass comments, which seems to confirm that the SR850 are the bassier of two. I just wonder whether the Samsons lose out significantly in the highs area versus the Superluxes, so it may be worth it for me to buy the latter.

Hey there is now a Samson RH-600 as well which is their top model and only a few pounds more. Might want to check it out.
http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/111193/orthodynamic-roundup/300#post_2922706
The Samson RH-600 looks like a good frame, for example, but the stock driver is 40mm. I've never heard these cans, but an electronic musician friend of mine speaks highly of them, and they can be had for as little as $35. They could be the cheapest open audiophile cans on the market, for all I know. Somebody should buy a pair and do some A/B testing between it and a UR40.
post #63 of 6454/6/11 at 5:14pmPaw music is selling on Ebay now so you can get the 668b for $69 shipped. Canadians can save up to $16.

Am burning in my first full-sized cans, the 669. The Crystal Method never sounded this awesome. Better bass than the open 668B, slightly uncomfortable but can't really complain for the price. Major con: These cans are forcing me to look for a real sound card! :P
Will audition the 662 (cheaper, closed) and the 681 (same $, open, but supposedly have good bass) this weekend, wanting a set for the second PC. The 660 seems like the better option if not for the price.
Anyone using 668B/681: Possible to close off some of the vent holes to help with isolation? How would that affect soundstage and bass?
post #66 of 6454/7/11 at 6:23pmGot my Fiio E7 in today, and I feel like it brings the 668Bs low end to life. The bass boost for the E7 sounds GREAT to me on these. I haven't tried it out on any other phones, so I don't know if it's just the fiio in general or good 'synergy' between the two components. I'm very satisfied with these, we'll see how they stack up against the FA-011s when they arrive.

They do clamp tight on your head, but I don't mind that too much. And the earpads will probably make your ears sweaty. I read that the k240 earpads were an improvement over the stock 668B earpads, but in what way? Does it help with the sweatiness or comfort? I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna buy the velour pads, they're way too expensive.

I'm looking forward to you comparing the HD662 and HD669! I am enjoying the living daylights out of my HD662 so if the HD669 is even better...

Id like to which sounds better between the hd681 and hd669 and which handles bass better, the 669 is £30 more than the hd681 here.

The 681 is semi open whilst the 669 is closed. It was the 681 warm punchy bass and that made me make my up to get a Superlux and the 681 is considered to be a lower SQ to 668B.

X2
My HD669s are ridiculous good for the money (sorry for the superlative, but I think they really deserve a big hype)
They could be amazing if the bass would be a tad tighter, bigger and more textured, so I am curious how they compare to the HD662s which are supposed to be bassier, though unfortunately less clear sounding.

Great....now i want all of them, the 662Fs, the 681s, the 669s and the 668Bs! arghhhh
post #72 of 6454/8/11 at 8:27pmI listened 662 series (forgot which one) once, and I found its grainier than 668b and 669. the high is sparkly, brighter, but much more fun and energetic than 668b/669. 669 is a tad brighter than 668b, and the soundstage is less wide, but the bass is deeper. I found 66bb/669 smoother than 662 but 662 is much much much more fun! great for rock, but personally I prefer smoother sound of 668b.

Thanks for the comparison, I guess I have chosen the right headphones with the HD669s, I certainly don't want a grainier sound, nor do I want a bass that is (even) less deep than HD669's bass.

Yeah 662 is great for rock. Was going to get a Grado before but think this do the trick for me. Couldn't stand listening to rock on my Ultrasone. Great complement to my sones.post #75 of 6454/11/11 at 10:03amall people here said that they are good at this price, or, can they really compare to something like AKG518le? K450? or even Denon D1100?
or??
I understand is not exactly talking about " better" but that is a matter of style of sound.
somehow, something like "deeper & stronger bass" "wider soundstage" etc.......
looking for upgrade from 518, interest to hear this!!
(portable, MP3 320 file, pop, rock, post rock, like boom bass, circum-aural wanted, sony A828 WP3 player)
thanks
