Little confused on what caps to buy for maggnavox 9302

Thread Starter

I am rebuilding a magnavox 9302 tube amp.  I am a bit confused on what kind of caps to buy.  I went to a few stores and theres a ton of different kinds of capacitors.

I believe this is my shopping list for the recap and mods i want to do:

-Nicer RCA and Speaker posts
-Safety capacitor (x1/y2 i believe)

-passive preamp for volume control and two input switching

-6v pilot light

-deoxit/black paint

-2x .047uf/400v
-2x .1uf/400v
-2x 200ohm/5watt resistors
-2x 220uf/35vdc
-100ohm/10w resistor
-330uf/400v cap
-.1uf/400v poly cap
-40uf/400v electrolytic cap
-60 to 220uf/400v

There is a link with most of the mods I want to do.

Also, does anyone have any ideas how I can make a headphone output for it?  Id assume there would be a way by using some resistors to the output, but im not sure.

I only took a quick look at the circuit.  Almost all caps on vintage equipment usually need replacing in my experience.  All of the resistors should be checked too, some might have drifted in value.  You can pad down the output level with resistors but this may affect the bass response.  One potential pit fall with using a regular power amp is that hiss, hum, noise etc that isn't noticable on speakers might be distractingly appearent on 'phones.

A dedicated headphone amp is usually better.  The problem with DIY is that getting a decent looking case is a lot of work.  Some kits come with a case (see glass jar audio link below).

I've built a John Broskie Aikido amp but the case was a LOT of work. (see link)
