note, however, that I heard the Lyr during a meet, so the conditions were not ideal.  however, I did do the comparison with the dynalo at that same meet, on top of owning one, so the comparison does have a bit of validity to it.

Thank You Gent's, something else to ponder!

Frankie K, if you're feeling ambitious, I believe that AMB has the boards and (I think) chips needed to build a Dynalo. I put one together about five years ago for about $150. It might cost a little more today, but it's not a difficult build and you'll get terrific performance. Probably the best bang-for-buck amp out there.

I've disassembled mine - I found another built Dynalo board here awhile back and have two STEPs power supplies. The plan is to turn that into a Dynamid, which is a balanced Dynalo. Way back when, that used to be considered one of the finest amps available. And you sure don't see many of them turn up on the used market.

That's something to really think about, I used to try and tinker with older stereo's with mixed result's over 22 yrs ago, I wonder if it's time to play again, I think the built amp itself is around $300. + S/H. I'll see what's more feasible and how truly ambitious I can be.  Thank's for the info Uncle Erik.

Thanks for your input. More I listen to the LD with the HE-5LEs, more I wonder how could they sound any better?!?

I purchased a Matrix M-Stage with a balanced upgraded op amp from a fellow Head-Fi member, just to see how it would stack up against the LD Mk III with the HE-5LEs. I thought the Matrix was really nice until I plugged the LD back in and heard the nuances/texture that I was missing with the Matrix. And, the dynamics with the LD with the upgraded tubes that are used in the Mk IV are right on... at least to my ears.

But, I'm still curious what the Lyr or the Whiplash Audio Millet MiniMax hybrids would do with the HE-5LEs. Do you think they wouldn't do anything more, or as much as the LD does with the HE-5LEs?

Again, thanks for your input.
