Hey dudes,
Heaf-fi has been absolutely terrific. The information available here has kept me busy for nights and nights, and not to mention the fact that I've had to rediscover the concepts of physics. It has been a month since I randomly dipped my finger into the "audiophile-icity" of sound and have since been pulled head first into all of this.
At first, I had no clue as to what was being said amongst you guys. There was no sense of an actual living community while I went skipping around this forum's history, looking first for suggestions, then reviews, then comparisons... then more suggestions upon more comparisons and reviews, only to find another possible component....it was work. After a few sleepless nights, I began to get farther than simply using the search feature, and have really enjoyed various threads/discussions and getting to "know" some frequent posters here. =)
Anyways, here I am...making a quick appearance before I head back to audiophilism. My young, impressionable audiophile mind will try to speak the language and combine it with some of my general ideas and plans. I enjoy listening to a sound that is "awesome" and "haunting" (awe-aunting =D ), or what I would think might be considered "warm", "crystal clear (but not bright by any means)", and most importantly, "massive soundstage." A few examples of bands or performers, some found with the help of audiophistic communities, are Colin Stetson, Mogwai, Sun CIty Girls, Radiohead (I put this only because I know everyone knows them), Nick Drake, David Dondero, Bob Dylan (again, simply to give a general sound perspective), Bach, Tchaikovsky, and Schubert. So, I think that can capture my musical spectrum decently. As far as my plans go, I am looking for an upgradable system, one which has versatility but not at the cost of quality (It should be a setup I will enjoy forever, without upgrade, if need be).
Alright, alright, I will get to the juicy stuff now. So far, I have purchased Denon D2000's. I got these before submerging myself entirely into these boards, but I will say, without going into a review, that they are probably one of the best bets for contemporary music. Recently, with tremendous help from Head-fi, I bought the Audinst MX-1. So far, maybe around 20 hours spent listening to this combo, and love it more and more each day.
To get to the actual point, I have a question regarding passive speakers and a power amplifier. Now does this setup make sense? Does it work, if I use my macbook pro > mx-1 (as a pre-amp) > *power amplifier* (such as a onkyo m282 or NAD245) > and then unto some speakers such as PSBs or Paradigms? I'm more interested in the actual logistics of the mx-1 to the power amplifier. Does this work wel;, does it work at all? Any other options I might have overlooked?
Thanks guys!
D
