I'm not hot on that EQ. Try and use the Convolver plugin with the impulse file "Metal" instead. You really should try and create your as everybody's preferences, hearing, and equipment is different. There is no generic rock setting.

i've recently discovered the convolver. very interesting plugin, sounds much better than the foobar eq imo. the metal preset was the first one i latched on to also, but after a while i felt the bass was a bit muddy, and mid-upper frequencies seemed compressed in some way. now i'm using the sony-oxford eqs from this page: http://www.echochamber.ch/ LP 12kHz 36dB sounds very open and detailed on my setup (rme pad, sxh-1, hd600s), while augmenting the bass but keeping it natural. the metal setting still sounds better on some tracks though. seems convolvers are often used to emulate various reverbs, anyone have experience making convolver eqs or know where to find some more good ones?

This is what I use for foobar's EQ. In my opinion, it sound way better than the Convolver with Metal.

Right. Using presets is likely to cause you more harm than good.

What one would like to achieve is some of these:

a) correct for shortcomings in his/her system/equipment
b) correct for shortcomings in the recording
c) adjust the sound to fit his/her personal taste

Generally, you can only lose, as no preset can take any of those in account.
