DACT impedance?

This might be a stupid question, but I'm looking to replace the Alps Blue in my Stello with a DACT CT2 and I'm just wondering which impedance to get? The Alps is 10K, so should I just get the same?

You'll be fine getting the same.

If you get a higher value pot, then the knob can be turned up higher before reaching the same volume as before. Good if you previously found the knob to be too sensitive.

Volume control impedance has nothing to do with overall volume range. Given two different volume controls with the same attenuation curve, if one is 10K and the other 100K and both are set at the same level, the same voltage comes out the wiper in both, in an ideal world.

In the real world, the voltage you get from the wiper can change significantly because pots and stepped attenuators are passive devices, so they can be loaded by other resistances surrounding them. This is why volume controls come in multiple values: it should be at least 10x the value of the drive resistance and less than or equal to 1/10 the load resistance, in order to minimize loading effects.

As for how this applies to the original question, the point is that if you are replacing a 10K pot, assume the designer knew what he was doing and use a 10K replacement.

Thanks a lot guys, a 10K it is.
