Which is the better option for my set up?

Hi,

I'm new to the boards but i've been lurking around for a few months.  I am currently deciding on which route I should take to get the most out of my HD595.  I currently have a soundcard that came with my motherboard but is not an onboard sound card.  It has SPDIF out as coax and 7 3.5mm jacks for a 7.1 set up.

I mainly use my computer to listen to music and play games but I hold music above gaming. Should I get a better soundcard like the xonar STX or something like a Fiio E7?  If I go with the E7 route, would using the SPDIF and converting it to 3.5mm be the better option over the direct 3.5mm to 3.5mm or just the plain old USB connection?

Any advice would be appreciated,

Hi, I just bought STX and PC 350 today. Reading your post, I can't help myself signing up to head-fi (this site is just awesome). I'd also describe myself as gamer with leanings toward music with good quality sound. I'm not an audiophile, I just exceedingly love to listen to music (RL has been harsh on my gaming time recently). I like lows, moderate highs, natural crystal like singer's voice so it's like he/she's singing for me and recently I've became more and more liking natural sounds.

I chose STX because all info indicate that it's a good card for headphones, good card for music, can hold itself in gaming world, head-fi has abundant information on it, John Atkinson made a review on it, and ST is not available in my country (I forget what I don't like about Xonar Xense, robscix wrote a review in guru3d if you'd like to see it).

Right. All I'd like to say is that I'm very satisfied with my STX and PC 350 (I even put hold on my intention to mod the headset; a very popular mod over the internet which thread you can find here). Again, I'm not an audiophile but (after tweaking a few settings to my liking) the sound is AMAZING. I like the stage enough, I hear sounds I've never heard before on my last config (Audigy and HD 515, it's okay you can laugh lol!), emotions just pour into my ears. I have several games lined up for me to hear through STX but I've been sitting in front of my rig for 6 hours enjoying music far too much to even touch any dvd, sorry.

That's my two cents! Regards.
