I want speakers... but I want all-around.

I am looking for speakers. I did look at the Swans and the Audioengines. I've seen the reviews and love that they all are good for music. But are any of them great for movies/games too? I am looking for an all-arounder 2.0 soon to be upgraded or 2.1 speakers. I really do enjoy listening to music when I first got into the world of sound quality and really do not want to lose that! But I also enjoy the sounds emitted from movies and games.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Budget? Good speakers will sound good with everything, but a good subwoofer makes all the difference when it comes to movies.

My budget is $250 tops! I'm willing to get 2.0 if I know at the end of the road I can later upgrade them (for I am at college right now). So  a speaker that is excellent for music is just excellent in sound in general?

Yes, anything that does well with music should work.

For $250, there aren't many options. The PSB Alpha B1 is pretty good for the money. I really like the pair I gave to my parents.

Also, are you willing to try DIY? You could build some excellent Voight Pipes for $250 or less.

in addition to the PSB Alpha B1 mentioned by Uncle Erik, some like the Polk Audio RT5, and it's recently been reviewed in a few places; the B&W DM302 are also in that price range. in each case, it's also a question of what else you are using...

Personall i'd go vintage. You'll get so much more sound for your money IMO.
