Replacing alarm clock speaker?

Looking to upgrade my alarm clock's speaker, the whole unit was $20 and the speaker leaves a lot of room for improvement (playing the radio). Are there any bare speakers in which I could swap out the current one and replace it with the new one? My soldering skills are limited (2 CMoys are my only accomplishments so far), but I figure a simple speaker swap shouldn't be too difficult. Willing to spend up to $40. The alarm clock has no output jack, but if anyone could share any else of their ideas on how to increase the fidelity on my alarm clock it would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe. What size is the speaker? Measure it and let us know. There might be an aftermarket speaker that would fit.

The speaker is 70 mm, 8 ohms, and .3 W. However, it seems to be glued in there so I may have difficulty getting it out... as of now I'm thinking that the new speaker would have to be mounted to the outside with a hole drilled in the case for the wires.

Digikey has lots of speakers to pick from.  Unfortunately most in this size category probably are just glorified buzzers.

Well I would probably have to mount it to the outside anyway so a larger speaker would still work out, as long as it wasn't massive and wasn't too power-hungry. Something like 120mm or less seems reasonable to me.

Any ideas?

I really can't see how this would be a worthwhile upgrade.  The amp in the clock is probably so week that putting a larger speaker would actually make it worse.
