okay everyone, please help me out if you can point to a computing pioneer commenting on music. I'll start with Alan Turing and Claude Shannon, two seminal figures who gave us the universal machine and the sampling theorem, respectively:
“Shannon wants to feed not just data to a Brain, but cultural things! He wants to play music to it!”
[Andrew Hodges, Alan Turing: The Enigma (London: Vintage 1992), 251]
if you know someone else who was both important/influential in the history of computing and commented on music explicitly, please post a quote here. thanks in advance!
