Headphone amplification for pc gaming

Heya

I just found out I need a headphone amp. When I put the jack from my headphone in my laptop it won't give me enough volume. It will give me enough volume if I put my headphones in my speaker's socket. Since the speakers can amplify the sound. I don't have this problem with my older headphone though.

I'm kinda clueless with this subject, but I want some kind of amplification device that I can plug into my laptop's jack socket. That device also has a headphone socket, so I can put my headphones into the device and turn up the volume (just like speakers only it should be as small as possible and shouldn't need any electricity).

I'm not sure if there are headphone amps that require no electricity (or maybe it can tap some electricity from my laptop?)

The reason I need this device is I don't always have the speakers with me, so I need some device that can do the same thing so I have awesome sound while gaming on my laptop.

Thanks!

Bump. Anyone?

How about Fiio's DAC/amp the E7?  The key feature here is the ability of the E7 to bypass your laptop's sound card allowing for a more powerful signal to better drive your headphones.

Sorry I don't understand what you're saying. What is Fiio's DAC/amps the E7? I'm a noob at this so a bit more noob-friendly explanation is welcome :)

Ha ha, no problem.  An explanations is what you will have!  Fiio is China based company that produces audio related(good ones at that) products such as cables, amplifiers and such.  In your case the product I suggested the E7 is a portable headphone amplifier that also has a built-in DAC or Digital to Analog Converter.  What a "DAC" does is it converts digital information like mp3s or cd tracks, into analog eletrical signals that a speaker or headphone uses to produce sound.  Every device that has the ability to play music has one from ipods to cd players to your laptop.

Often times in order to conserve battery power laptop manufacturers will include DACs that have very modest amplifiers, which is why you might have difficulty getting a good listening volume out of certain headphones, which is where the E7 comes in.  When connecting the E7 to your laptop(via USB connection) it is recongnized as essentially an external sound card.  The DAC in the E7 will handle converting all of the audio information into sound instead of your laptop's onboard sound card.  Plus, with the stronger amplifier section of the E7 you'll be to drive most headphones to good listening level.  I hope that clarifies things a bit for ya.  If still have any questions feel free to ask!
