Amp for Bookshelf speaker in PC setup

Thread Starter

Recently i got my hand on a pair of whaferdel diamond 9.6 and a Yamaha RX-661 receiver. However i feel the yamaha did a poor job amping the speakers (detail are kind of missing at low volume level) hence i am looking for a replacement. Since i only use 2.0 set up  an amp should be fine. Can anyone recommend me a good amp for those 2 ?

If it's lacking detail at lower volumes it means the volume control on the yamaha isn't that good, get a amp with a analog volume control it will have channel imbalance at lower volumes but won't lack detail.

look for a second hand nad or cambridge stereo integrated amp

Get something vintage, as you will get a great deal for it and you can get alot of watts cheap and its will be awesome.

I doubt a different amp will resolve the issue (but I could be wrong). I think it's probably due to the speakers limitation. I felt the same with the Paradigm Studio 60's; at low volume details were lost, but at higher volume they opened up. it was like a turbo engine; turn up the volume and they would shine. not ideal for a small apartment, or if you mostly listen at low volume. the Paradigm S1's are great in this regard; I can listen to them at low volume in the early hours, and not missing any details (but I wouldn't mind a sub - just a little).

maybe better use the money toward speakers. I'd save at least $1.500+ for monitors, or double that for floorstanders. (imo)
