Some "Big Band" recommendations if you would - Page 3

Whenever I have a question about sweet bands, I ask my friend Milton. He knows an awful lot about 20s dance bands and easy listening. He grew up hearing that music in his home as a kid and he loves the moods the music sets. Milton taught me a lot about that kind of music. He isn't a musician himself, but does happen to be black. I'm not a musician and I love Cab Calloway and Louis Jordan. Strangely enough, I'm white. Go figure!

I bet there are even black people who like Pat Boone!

American popular culture is everyone's popular culture.

Forgive me, y'all. Looks like I wound him up…

White: "Say goodnight, Gracie."
Black: "Let's slam a lid on this fine Arabian clambake."

Thanks all for the recommendations.  I've checked out several of them and have purchased a few albums.  I'm trying to make my way through them all, and I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.

Jack Teagarden is often overlooked.  Interesting discussion regarding the classic big band era.

I had a chance at a used copy of the Teagarden Capitol box by Mosaic once and I passed on it. I'm still kicking myself about that. I really like his singing as well as his trombone.

…another excellent back-to-the-future selection: It's The Talk Of The Town…And Other Sad Songs by the Dutch theater big band Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Gorgeous arrangements of standards, strings, unobtrusive singers…may be hard to find, but definitely worth it.
