I have the MD's, have not heard the IE8's (although I want to).
I love my MD's...they have such a smooooth sound with great mids, great bass and just enough treble for me...I'm not on team treble.
I rarely feel the bass is overpowering with them it always seems like 'just enough' to me and the bass gives them a full, strong presence to my ears...they never feel thin or have the 'listening through a tube' feeling I get with some other iems. They are the iem's I have had to eq the least on different players since their natural sound is very good and doesn't need much improvement to me. They sound good on any source I've tried them with including my iphone 4 and a nano 3g.
I made a decision between the MD's and the westone 3's as my main iem and chose the MD's...but one of the things I miss about w3's(besides the cord...oh that westone cord) is the soundstage of the w3. The MD's are a little tighter...I still get good instrument separation but its a more compact soundstage. I imagine that this would be a huge difference between the MD's and the ie8.
main source - cowon j3 and clip + have a fiio e7 but rarely use it as an amp
music selection...a lot of indie folk, indie rock and Radiohead-esque bands...some jazz and very little electronic or classical.

Lets put this way. Monster build is not comparable to sennheiser. Although md has a much better packaging then ie8, the ie8 is much cheaper. MD drivers is very heavy, and IE8 is very light. IE8 will have better insertion than md depending on different people since its nozzle is angular. And sound wise, MD will sound clearer, IE8 will sound more laid back. Bass wise, ie8 bass is boomier to md since the veil sig of ie8. Also, ie8 is much easier to drive with your ipod. Overall, ie8 is a better choice, in terms of build but soundwise MD is better.Well at least slightly.
ps- IE8 synergies well with many amps(d10,corda,rsa) as for MD im quite unsure.
It really depends on personal preference. Personally at the current price level of MD ($400 at Amazon), it's a better buy simply because of the lifetime warranty. Another plus point of MD is that it sound good universally across almost all genres. As for fit, the MD comes with all the supertips, so not to worry, there will be definitely one that fits you. Another IEM you can consider is Klipsch X10(i). I have both the MD and X10i and both of them are considered quite bassy offerings. I prefer the X10i for classical and vocal because of its extended high and wider sounds, and the MD for everything else for its thicker and smoother sound.
Thanks for you help! I'm thinking about buying the IE8 on ebay because its just too expensive on amazon and other websites! I'm afriad that some of them on ebay are fake. Can you check the following links below to see if you think those are fake or not. Thank you.
On onecall you could offer and get the MD for 279.
Thanks for you help, but do you know any websites where I could get the IE8 for cheap? If not, then I'll just have to go for the MD.
Senn's warranty is much better than monster's.
I have broken my old senns a few times within 2 years, and a new pair was given to me each time.
It's much more convenient as I can simply hand it over to the service center and collect it in a week.
Also, I'll advise you to not get it from ebay.
Just to play safe.
Why save a few bucks and risk authenticity when you can get assured quality and coverage at slightly more?

It's best to buy from an authorised Sennheiser dealer.
Sennheiser USA has a running list of non authorized dealers.

If you do not see the dealer, but have suspicions, please check with your local distributor.
