I bought my first DVD-Audio disc

I've never owned any SACD or DVD-A's before, but I bought one off ebay recently and it arrived yesterday.  David Crosby "From the Front Row Live".  He does some of the classic CSNY material like Wooden Ships as well as some of his own material.  I am impressed.  It sounds "fuller" than a regular Redbook CD.

Granted, I am a newbie at quality audio.  This is my first post here, but this website seems great, and I think I will be spending much time here.  smile.gif  I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 202's a year ago and listened to an Mp3 of "Peg" by Steely Dan on the headphones and was blown away!  I didn't even know that there was an awesome bass line on that track.  Because I had been using rubbish headphones like the $5 K-Mart ones that you find next to the breath mints and AAA batteries near the checkout line.  So then I started ripping my CD's into Apple Lossless on iTunes.  And it only got better.  So now I am converting people by letting them listen to my Senns.

I am about to buy some better headphones soon, as money allows.  I also have a pair of HD201's.  I want to at least get a $60-$70 pair because I imagine they will up my listening pleasure a lot.  Jumping from a $25 pair to a $70 pair.

Does anyone know a good place to buy SACD or DVD-A's?  I may try vinyl soon.  I never have experienced vinyl.  I was born in the early 70's, and my parents didn't have a hi-fi record player/stereo.  They were listening to 8-tracks and cassettes.  And when I satrted buying my own music in the early 80's, I bought cassettes and then shortly after that, I started buying CD's.

I bought a CMOY amp kit, but I haven't gotten around to soldering it up yet.  Maybe someone on here can do it if I pay them?  Anyway, thanks for listening to a total noob.  I will learn a lot here, and I can't wait.

For $60-$70, I'd recommend either the Grado SR-60i or the Sony MDR-V6. Both are excellent entry-level headphones. The Sony is flatter and more neutral, and the Grado is tuned for rock and more fun.

Vinyl is a big step. There are a huge amount of options there. I can't go into everything here, but you might want to look around the vinyl threads in the Source Forum. There's a lot to learn.

P.S. I love your avatar! biggrin.gif It took me three or four viewings before I realized it was a comedy.

Thanks for the headphone recommendations.  I will be checking for those.

Yeah, I love Eraserhead.  Lynch created that movie as a work of art.  You can pause that film at any frame and print it out and hang it on a wall.  It's on Netflix Instant now.  I watched it the other night.  The first time I watched it was way back in the late 80's; my older brother checked it out from the library's AV dept., and we watched it on our old massive Sears VCR.
